An Outdoor Championship? Yes!

Sub League will celebrate its tenth annual season with its first-ever outdoor tournament. The August 9th Season Championship (note the change in date) will take place on Liberty High School’s football field.

Over the past several weeks, we’ve been talking with competitors, coaches, and volunteers about how to make this event not only fun, but comfortable in the Oregon sunshine. We’ve done both Gi and No-gi outdoor grappling sessions to test the heat (and loved it so much we’re making a habit of it). Below are the plans and adjustments we’ve made. Here’s what you need to know.

  • SHADE:
We will have a large tent covering the competition mat to provide shade and comfort throughout the entire day. Bleachers will provide plenty of shade throughout the day for athletes and spectators. Teams are welcome to bring their own shade tents to set up on the turf field for their athletes (no stakes allowed, please use weighted items to secure).
  • SCHEDULE:
Out of town competitors and volunteers expressed concern about splitting youth and adults (morning and night). With the shade and fans, we’ve decided to hold ALL DIVISIONS DURING THE DAY, starting at 9 a.m. The order of events is below; the final schedule will be posted by Thursday, August 7.
    ORDER OF EVENTS
    Youth Gi, All Belts
    Junior Gi, All Belts
    Men Gi, White Belt
    Women Gi, All Belts

  • RAIN:
In the case of rain (this is Oregon after all) or severe heat, the tournament will be moved indoors to Liberty High School’s gymnasium. We will follow the same order of events.

Thank you for supporting our events for the past ten years. We are excited to celebrate with you. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to participate.
