Get ready for the biggest Jiu Jitsu tournament in Oregon! The 19th annual Oregon Open Jiu Jitsu Championship is a traditional, pointed Jiu Jitsu tournament where matches are decided by highest score, submission, or referee stoppage. Divisions include Gi and No-gi; Adult, Master 1 (30+), Master 2 (40+), Teens and Youth (ages 5 up)… divided by belt/skill, weight, and age. The event has traditionally followed a single elimination format but with experience matches, in an effort to provide at least two matches for all competitors. WHAT TO EXPECT THE DAY OF THE EVENT
TRACK YOUR BRACKET’S DYNAMIC START TIME
Please remember the schedule is LIVE the day of the event. It is not unusual for times to change rapidly throughout the day. Brackets starting later in the day may shift up to 90 minutes earlier than originally scheduled. It is the competitor’s responsibility to monitor any changes in the schedule to start times and mat numbers for their bracket. Sub League is NOT responsible for any athlete who misses their weigh-in or start time of their bracket. No refunds will be given to competitors who miss their weigh-in or start time.
BE READY ON TIME
Competitors should be in the building and dressed to compete 1-hour before their BRACKET’s estimated start time (not their individual match time). The Brackets & Schedule will be available by Thursday before the event for Adults/Masters and by Friday before the event for Youth/Teens.
CHECK-IN
Every competitor will check-in at the front desk when they arrive. Competitors who registered by September 30 are eligible to receive a free T-shirt (available inside the venue at the merchandise booth). Competitors should stay up-to-date with the progress of their bracket start time and mat number on the screen provided in the bullpen or on their own phones.
Competitors wanting to check their weight before the official weigh-in should visit the bullpen to use the test scale. Warm up mats will be available.
WEIGH-INS
When your bracket is called (approximately 1-hour before your BRACKET’s start time) find your Bullpen Leader in the bullpen area to get officially weighed in. All competitors will weigh-in wearing their full competition attire. There is ZERO (0.00) weight allowance. Competitors weighing more than the maximum weight listed for their division will be disqualified and will not be allowed to compete. Athletes competing in both Gi and No-gi will weigh-in separately for both.
AWARDS
After your bracket is finished, please wait for the Awards Runner to take you from the mat to the awards booth to receive your medal. Adult/Masters receive medals for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. Youth/Teens receive medals for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place plus participation medals for 4th place and above.

COMMON REASONS FOR DISQUALIFICATION
Note: No refunds or credits are issued for disqualification
#1 NOT MAKING WEIGHT
The weight division you register for has a maximum weight listed. You will step on the scale right before your bracket begins, fully dressed in your competition attire. If you weigh more than the maximum weight listed, you will be disqualified. If you weigh more than the maximum weight listed, you will not receive a refund or a credit. There is NO WEIGHT ALLOWANCE.
Our advice to all competitors: If in doubt, go with the higher weight division to avoid the stress of possible disqualification. It is okay to weigh less than the weight division range; you just cannot weigh more. All corrections to your registration must be made online by 11:59 pm on Monday before the event on Smoothcomp.
#2 NOT KNOWING THE RULES
Take the time to review the rules now, including the Allowed and Disallowed Holds and Takedowns for your age/skill level in the Competition Rules. Familiarize yourself with the scoring and unique bracketing.
#3 MISSING THE UNIFORM REQUIREMENTS
Only white, royal blue, black, and pink gis are allowed for all competitors. Pockets in your no-gi shorts? Sew them up now! Pockets, zippers, loops and other potential hangups are not allowed on your competition attire. Read more on uniform requirements in the Competition Attire and Hygiene section of the Competition Rules.
#4 NOT CHECKING THE SCHEDULE
The live event schedule will be available on Smoothcomp. It is a live schedule, meaning times can shift up and/or down dramatically throughout the event. Note that Brackets starting later in the day may shift up to 90 minutes earlier than originally scheduled. Please refresh the online schedule often and plan to be in the building, dressed and ready to compete, at least 1 hour before your bracket’s final start time.
COACH APPRECIATION T-SHIRT GIVEAWAY
One Head Instructor of each Academy with 10+ INDIVIDUAL competitors at the 2025 Oregon Open will receive a free coach T-shirt. The T-shirt will be available at the coach check-in table.
Sub League will reference the “Person in Charge” listed on your Academy’s Smoothcomp listing to determine who will receive the shirt. If someone else will pick up the shirt, please email tracy@subleague.com before the event.
Important: Please review your athlete list to ensure students are registered under your correct Academy name. Some students are under duplicate Academy names (i.e. Strong BJJ vs Strong’s BJJ). If this applies, ask your student(s) to make the correction on their Smoothcomp profile. In some cases, the head instructor may need to contact Smoothcomp to merge duplicate Academy listings.
Feel free to contact tracy@subleague.com with questions.
HAS YOUR COACH REGISTERED YET?
Each team is allowed one (1) free coach entry for every five (5) athletes competing. Each eligible coach must pre-register online before the deadline in order to receive free entry. Coaches must register for each subleague.com event separately (previous registration does not transfer to future events).
The complimentary coach registration deadline is 11:59 p.m. on Thursday before the event. Additional coaches, or those registering after the deadline, can register for $10 at the door ($15 for a 2-day pass).
